Today on the blog we are doing a Q + A with Samantha Ruble. She’s the beauty and brains behind the fashion and lifestyle blog, Go French Yourself, where she shares her favorite fashion finds, recipes and travel recommendations.
Q: How (when) did you get your start in blogging/social media? What was your motivation to get started?
A: I launched my blog not even two years ago. On Feb 26th Go French Yourself turns 2 and I cannot believe it !!
Constant questions like:
“how did you do that?”
“What is that recipe?”
“how did you style that?”
All of a sudden I was spending hours each day sharing how-to’s and life hacks with my best girls. A little encouragement from those same girls and voila! “Go French Yourself” was born.
I have always loved social media and have had a following even before my blog. Now I just strategize more and really treat it like the business it is. I work hard daily to keep growing my brand.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Bohemian – Glam all the way. I am so drawn to fashion from the 70’s and I love mixing vintage wears with classic modern designer pieces that never tire. I am a huge advocate of the capsule wardrobe though so you often see me in the same pieces but styled differently.
And I never leave the house without my sunnies and a good manicure!
Q: Where do you find inspiration?
A: I am always finding inspiration when I travel. I love living like a traveling gypsy and can’t sit in one place very long. I also find inspiration in fashion magazines, and in music, nature, and architecture.
Q: How would you describe your audience? What keeps your readers/followers coming back to GoFrenchYourself.com?
A: My audience ranges from good friends to complete strangers that have become virtual friends. I write a lot about style and beauty secrets so I tend to attract women readers ranging from 18- 64. I truly believe my readers keep coming back because I am constantly producing new content and being that I am a lifestyle blogger there is a little something for everyone. I also am really raw and honest and I think people can relate to some of the hardships I face daily with weight, anxiety, and cyber bullying.
Q: Do you see yourself as an “influencer,” and if so, what does that mean to you?
A: I do see myself as a influencer. I have always been a trend setter ever since I was in junior high. I also love sharing products and things I am crazy about and my readers love that about me. I am just genuine and authentic and true and that will also shine through and influence people even when you are not trying.
Q: How do you choose which brands to collaborate with?
A: I only align myself with brands and labels I would promote anyway, even without receiving financial compensation. The dreamiest collaboration for me is with a product or a brand that I’ve actually been wearing and loved for years. I have to say no a lot and that has been one of the hardest parts of my blogging career but I think that has helped to authenticate my blog, but mostly keep a trustworthy relationship with my followers. I also look at a brands social media channels and their website too. And I look at who they are also working with and reposting.
Q: If a brand is interested in collaborating with you how should they approach you/get in contact?
A: Email is the best way and they can email me at email@example.com
Q: What advice would you give someone who is thinking about getting into the blogging/influencer world?
A: I would remind them that it’s hard hard work like any business. You must have writing skills, creativity, and major discipline — especially when you start to monetize it. I would also tell them to have their website professionally done and hire a media creative consulting agency to help guide them along the first few months. It costs money to make money! But it’s worth it. You have to find your niche and voice to stand out in a very competitive bustling blogger market.
Q: What are you looking forward to in your career as a social media influencer/blogger?
A: I am looking forward to moving to Barcelona next year and really adding a heavier travel and tourism focus to Go French Yourself. This will also require some major site changes including also having my blog in Spanish.
I look forward to hitting 10k on Instagram and celebrating that milestone which I know will really open some doors for me with some bigger collaborations.
I also look forward to meeting some of the virtual friends I have made in person.
And I look forward to getting so busy that I can sign with a full time agency for my brand.
Q: Favorite Quote?
A: ”Live, travel, adventure, bless, and don’t be sorry.” – Jack Kerouac
